C2C lifestyle
Studying architecture, i've been familiar to have the concept of ' Cradle 2 Cradle' very much a forethought in how i define my own design style. The C2C lifestyle expands on the value of materials beyond it original means. Recycle, yes. But in terms of fashion i wanted to make a garment not only made of 80% discarded umbrellas , but which also celebrated the theme of regeneration. --recycle.
A cross between the romance and resurrection of Snow White & the tactile workmanship of Edward Scissorhands-- I wanted to create a garment that responds to the nature of manufacturing and sustainable design. I chose these charcaters as a platform to acknowledge the dialog that takes place set within the duality of fashion & architecture.
A 2 part garment consisting of a corset top with appendages that redefine the spiral structure, emphasizing the sculpted collar made from the metal parts that structure the umbrella, and a suspended train on the rear made from an altered umbrellas head and coat.
A touch of renaissance with a techno charm, the pleated detail and steel form echo the same contours masked by their separate materials. Using the discarded fabrics & metal framing, I was able to create a system that implores a sustainable design. The skirt is a simplistic asymmetric twist, and softens the gesture of the red suspended train.
4 umbrellas were disassembled in fabricating the garment. The corset, collar, train, and skirt were made primarily with the nylon coat, with some reused lining to enforce the shape of the silhouette.

I understand your idea better with the edward scissorhands connection, although I find it hard to wear.
