Halter Bodice/Empire Waist

This is my second entry. I entered a dress I previously made in 2005 which became part of a project in style and sustainability. However, since I continue to find blown out umbrellas and have plenty of fabric, I wanted to make another dress. I am entering the sketches below, beginning with rough pencil drafts, through marker outlines and color renderings. I would like the facing and band at the empire waist to be made from the same recycled black sheet that I used as facing for my first dress. I think the matte finish of the (20%) fabric sheeting would play nicely off of the gloss of the (80%) umbrella fabric. The dress will have four vertically pieced tiers descending from an empire waist and a halter bodice that connects at mid-center back.
