Aluminum & Cotton

The umbrella is made from recycled aluminum and raw cotton. As it opens from the inside the goes upwards, it is convenient when getting out of vehicles and other tight spaces. The fabric's unique square design provodes more surface area than traditional designs. For waterproofing, the fabric is aluminum foil, sandwiched between unbleached, raw cotton fabric that have been stitched throughout in 5mm increments. Earth-friendly glues could be used along with the stiching to help secure the aluminum-cotton fabric. This arrangement prevents the foil from ripping when folded. It is held in place by alumunim rivets at the four corners. When opened, the umbrella's fabric is about 45cm from all sides.

The casing and handle which is about 3cm in diameter and are recycled aluminum, octagonal in shape. When closed, its height is about 87cm and could then be used as a walking stick and as a defensive tool. The end of the stick could be covered with accessories like decorative rubber for easy identification and protection.

Other materials like bamboo could be used for the casing and the mechanism. A smaller, shorter version is also possible.

Traditional circle fabric design using the same aluminum foil and cotton sandwich could also be used.
