My intentions were to design an umbrella that performed as well as existing umbrellas on the market, but keeping in mind the factors of sustainability, recyclability, and function. I was thinking of how umbrellas are used during and after the initial usage, where they are stored, how they are carried. From there I was able to come up with a solution that seemed to fit within my criteria.

The "Runbrella" is manufactured with three parts; recyclable nylon shield and handle, recyclable nylon thread, and recyclable spring steel. I also see the nylon shield being made of existing umbrella material or other recycled nylon. It's simple to use, easy to store, and easy to carry.

In terms of use after its intended life, I see the "Runbrella" being used as an emergency notification sign, a sun shield, or a cool thing to hang on the wall.
